Came into this race with the goal of going under 2 hrs.  My training for running a race has really been lacking.  So last night when I talked to JeffC about his plans.  I kind of adopted his plan of running a 1:40.  So with that in mind I was running this mostly to just finish it and get one of the races for the runners series done.  We headed down Friday night after work.  Getting in to my parents house that just moved down to SG a few months ago with the girls.  They were able to pick up our packets Fri night and also signed up the girls for the tuff kids races.:)

I ran into Jeff a half hr before the race and chatted a bit with him before taking of to warm up and dump off some clothes.  It was a tough race to plan for since it temps were cold and could be rainy.   Temps were around 40 or so.  And the roads were wet with a overcast.  There was not much of breeze either.  Just kind of perfect besides being cold.  The wife and I took of and warmed up for a bit and then dumped of my running pants.  Couldn't find Jeff at the starting line and ended up taking off without hime.  Wasn't till around mile 2-3 that he came up on me. And shortly after that Teena showed you and was tried to pass us.  She said that after mile 5 she was going to start counting all the guys that she chicked.  Well that was when I decided ok I am on the 1:40 pace.  Now I just need me make sure that she didn't pass me.:)  After a a few miles Jeff started dropping off the pace.  And I was trying to keep up with Teena.  That really helped motivate me to keep up a strong pace.  The course wasn't to bad really.   And felt really good most of the race.  Was tougher around the 7-10 mark with some inclines.

Around mile 11-12 Teena started a surge when a lady passed us.  So I caught back up with Teena.  And tried to stay with that gal.  She would later take off and leave us both.  I am not sure what happened to Teena after that.  And I just focused on finishing strong.  With the finish line coming into view and about 150 m to go.  Teena came up on my shoulder fast.  Forcing me to pick up the pace.  All I could think is dont let her pass you.:)  Ended up beating her in the last bit with her running out of steam to catch up.  But in the ended she beat me chip time by like 21 secs.  It was great to have someone to push with.

I felt really good about the race and the paces.  And ran a pretty solid half pace wise.  It is a great way to start into my Ogden marathon training next week.  Saw and met with alot of people.  And the girls had a great time running the tuff kids races.  Kristi did really well in her 5k with a painfull back.

AWESOME!!!!! You did great! And you were very strong during the hardest parts of the race. Very impressive---glad you and Teena were able to push each other and that you had company on the run!!!

From Lyman on Sat, Jan 23, 2010 at 19:52:14 from 75.169.107.113

Excellent time, specially for the limited amount of training you've done.

Great running Mark! It was great seeing you down there. Are you going to do any Triathlons this year?

From flatlander on Sun, Jan 24, 2010 at 15:19:32 from 75.169.50.2

Great job, talk about keeping to the 1:40 pace! You are very talented and it sounds like you had a great time in addition to posting a great time.

I'd say it was a perfect way to start off your Ogden training. Look how even those spits were as well. I wish I had seen you at the race.

Great race Mark! That's a great time! I'm running the Utah Valley. When's the Ogden?

From Smooth on Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 11:43:28 from 174.23.232.65

Mark!!! I was so bummed that I didn't see you, Kristi and the girls at the post race party!

You did AWESOME! CONGRATS for not letting Teena chicked you! WAY to start off your Ogden training! You ran an OUTSTANDING race consider the hectic work and amount of bball playing. Your fitness is excellent. Here's to a great running year for you!!!!!

Nice race there Mark-O!!! It was great seeing you and Kristi after the race. You ran an amazing race even with such little training. I don't know how you do it!

Andy- Thanks Andy. Wish you were down there with us. Maybe next year.:)

Burt- Tell me about it. Right when I thought she was gone. She was right there at the finish line going for it.

Timp- Thanks bro.

Vinh- Yep I was figuring it could maybe count as a long run. Since they were for 2-3 hrs each time. Going to have to cut back on it now though since I am in training now.

Kelli- Yeah running races with friends only make it that much better. And friendly competition is the best. Was looking forward to seeing everyone. Just didn't happen.:(

Lyman- We will get there. Been a tough time since SG.

Riverton- Thanks Paul. Hope your recovering well and getting back at it soon. If not already.

Walter- Yeah I am glad that I saw you and was able to congratz you in person. We are doing a duathalon down there next month. But that will be it for me. No tris yet... Working on BQing again and the slam.

Flat- Yeah I was really quite suprised too. Started out kind of going for the 7:40-5 pace and just held that for the most part throughout. And was even suprised with the hilly parts that we were able to hold it very close to it the whole way.

Rhett- Yeah I was bummed that I didn't see you at all. I was looking for you before the race and after with no luck. We were planning on going to the party till I found out it was at 1 and not later. Since we had the girls down there and they raced the kids on. It just didn't happen at all.:(

Chad- Yeah was great to run with you for a few and see you a few times. I am doing Utah Valley also. Ogden is in May though so a month or so before UVM.

Smooth- Yeah I would of loved to make it to the party. Just got to busy with kids and such. Oh we also had to have a small party for Marissa for her Bday with Grandma and Grandpa.

Dale- Yeah it was great to have you run into me at after the race. Dude your really slimming down. I will have to start watch for you coming up on me too like Teena.

Dave- Yeah I went into it not really expecting much and felt good about the result in the end. Sure help boost my moral going into this next training cycle. Awesome race again.

That's impressive running 2 marathons in back to back months!

From Huans32 on Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 17:00:36 from 138.64.8.51

The slam is running 4 marathons this year. Ogden then a month later UV. Aug will be Park City and then 1 and half months later SG. It really is a challenge. But with each one the recovery seemed to be faster. Just look at Smooth she has done it a few yrs in a row now.
