Computer is down at home.  So late to log this run.  Went on the 5.5 loop.  Wind was blowing from the North rather then the South.  So it was a bit chill even if the sign said it was 51.  Had a good run anyhow.  Still debating about how I am going to do my training for Ogden.  Debating about going for like 50-70 mile weeks.  Or sticking with the First training plan.  Which only hits from 30-35 miles a week.  I did see a better endurance base with my bigger mile base last year.  So at the moment I am just building more base miles.

Good run, I know it can get really cold when the wind starts blowing. Down here with the heavy air it goes right through me. I think more miles are better than less, but everybody is different.

I'm a believer in more miles for a marathon. The FIRST program works well for those whose bodies cannot handle the mileage. 35 miles in the FIRST program is similar to a 50 mile program because of the cross training.

Flat- I am not a fan of cold winds and rain. I think your right about the miles though too.

Andy- Yeah that is true. It is like doing 50 miles. I am just coming up short on the endurance. I am not sure if it is due to my long runs not being the best maybe or what. But if I do the higher miles. I will have to do some tempo, speed, long and easy miles. It is just figuring out how I will do it.

I recommend the book Advanced Marathoning by Pete Pfitzinger. It includes training plans that max at 55 mpw, 70 mpw and 70+ in addition to explaining the principles of marathon training.

If you do your cross-training hard enough, I don't doubt that the FIRST plan would work. If your body can stand the higher mileage, I'd opt for the 5 or 6 days running per week.

Personally I'd rather run in any weather than go back into that hot, stinky gym again. It's been over a year since we dropped the membership and I don't miss it.

Mark --

Nice job! Okay ... here is my thinking: I really didn't like the FIRST program for the little while that I did it. It took the fun out of running for me. If I can get my body to cooperate I want to run more miles (but perhaps easier). But that's just me. :)

Nice job Mark-O. Hey, have you checked out the course and elevation charts for the Utah Valley Marathon in June? They changed the course again and it looks good and could be really fast. I'm going to do that one and maybe even Slick. I haven't spoken to him in a while, but he was considering it.

Nice workout Mark - I think you need to do what is best for your body...that being said you should do as many miles as your body can handle.
