Got up at 4 to run and ankle wasnt really into it when I started to up the pace.  So hopped off and started doing some calf, quad, chest, abs, obliques and arms.  Kind felt good.  Going to try my ankle out later tonight again if I can.  And see if I can get a few miles in.  No pull ups yet.

Yeah - the speedwork might have done that ankle in. Are you wrapping it at all?

From Rhett on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 11:50:41

Maybe later in the day after it is warmed up a bit, the ankle will feel better. Keep icing that thing at least 2x/day for 20 mins until it is 100%.

From huans32 on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 13:45:27

I havent wrapped it at all. Its not swollen so haven't wrapped it. I think I was just not warmed up is what I am hoping it is. And will try some running tonight. But I will need to start icing it alot more.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 14:39:36

Be careful tonight. Is this the same injury from when you stepped on the pine cone?

From huans32 on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 14:47:27

Yep I just havent let it recovery fully. It is feeling better. I just didnt want to run through some pain this morning I think. But still got in a good workout.

From Smooth on Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 23:51:21

Bummer. You're smart to not run with pain. Hope it feels better after some rest.

From Teena on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 00:46:00

Mark,

Sorry about the ankle! That stinks! Did you test it out again this evening?

Hmmm ... I'm sick of injuries!! Maybe we should all just get together and watch some cool running movie and talk about our best races, paces, and how tough we all are!! (Okay, how tough you are)

From huans32 on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 08:30:52

Smooth- Thanks Smooth. I went and got myself nice and sore though. That was a good workout. Even without the running. But that is a good kind of sore.

Teena- I didnt get a chance too. Only had my little one and so we enjoyed the night. Ya tell me about it. It is quite the mental battle. But I figure it will be better to get fully healed and then hit it hard. Then trying to hit it hard and recover. Yeah I wish there was alot more running movies out there. LOL your alot tougher then I am Teena.

Hey Mark maybe you should wrap it even though it is not swollen just to give it a little support. I know when I hurt may ankle a few years ago I ran with a wrap for almost a month until it started to feel better.

From huans32 on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 13:44:21

I just have never wrapped or iced anything much. I guess I will have to do it if I want to come back faster and stronger. At least walking on it feels normal.

From Rhett on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 13:46:38

Ice, Ice, Baby!!!!

I can't stress it enough. I don't wrap anything either. I have never noticed much help, but the ice (especially right after a run) will get you better much faster.

From huans32 on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 14:41:20

How often and how long do you recommend? I hear 15 and 20 min some say wait a hr between times too??

From Rhett on Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 14:50:24

Mark, I don't think you have to over do it. I think 2 to 3 times per day for 20 mins is plenty. I keep a couple ice packs and a couple ace wraps in the freezer all the time. That way they are there and easy to use when I need them and they are way easier to use than actual ice. Seems like I'm always icing something when I'm training hard. The wraps don't need to be in the freezer. Having the wraps handy to wrap the ice pack on makes it so you can move around your house and get things done while icing.

Thanks for the advice Rhett. I will have to start doing that same thing.
