Rode up Emigration Canyon for the 2nd time.  It is a nice ride going up.  With hills and flat area all the way up.  Till around the last mile or so and then its all climb too the summit.  Got to the top in 44:15 and turned around.  Took 1:07 to get it all done.  For the 2nd attempt it went rather well.  Shaved off 5 mins from the first time.

Ran 1 mile easy and then 4X800 at 2:58 2 min recovery and 1 mile easy.  Was a bit tired throughout the day and so this run wasnt the best.  But was able to finish it up.  It is the first running workout of my SGM training schedule.  Was going to try to do this at the track.  But had to go to the gym since they had some event going on at the track.

Decided to run the 5 miles at 9:00 pace.  Instead of riding up the canyon again.  Was a bit tight at first.  But after mile 3 wasnt to bad.

This was the first time doing this kind of race.  So wasnt sure what goals I should set for it.  I just ran it like a 70-80% 5k if there is such a thing.  I just wanted to get under 25 mins for this leg of the race.  Started out faster then I wanted at a 6:22 for the first mile.  Slowed it down for the 2nd 6:44.  Passed the 5 people that I would see for this leg.  I didnt really see anyone else to help push me harder and relaxed a bit for 7:30 split for the 3rd.  Finishing up with a 24:22 for this leg of the race.  With passing 5 and no one passed me yet.

Race: Wasatch Back Relay Leg 22 and 34 (10.5 Miles) 00:00:00

Leg 22 is a moderate rated 6.5 miles.  Started this one at around 2am and the temp was just right.  Tried to run this around a 7:26 pace.  Being that it was so dark had a harder time with doing it.  So I just found a good pace and went after road kill.  I passed 16 people and had one guy fly by me like I was walking.  Took me 50:09 for this leg.  Had a good sprint to the end up a small hill.  After we were done we took off for a cabin and got there at 5:45ish.  Took a shower hopped into bed.  Tried to sleep up at 7:30 ate some breakfast(scrambled eggs and fresh fruit)  And we were off at 7:45.  Got to the next exchange around 8:30.  We had around 45mins till van 1 would get there.

Leg 34 is the Ragnar rated Very Hard 4mile uphill climb.  My goal for this was to just keep going the whole way.  I was going to shoot for a 10:30 or so pace.  But had issues for the first mile with my Garmin.  So it was discarded at first water break at mile 1.  I stopped for about 10 secs in that first mile area.  The first 2 mile was the steepest part of this 4 mile climb.  I had water and sponge drenching after the first mile at each half mile mark.  I had 3 people pass me and passed 3 or 4.  Hard to remember I just kept going and was able to keep running the rest of the way.  I had a good amount left for a strong kick to the end.  Took 166 place on this leg with like 48 mins and change.  All and all I enjoyed this race and look forward to running it again next yr.  Was able to see Andy and Cal at East canyon exchange point which is alway good to see some other bloggers.  And to see that 2 groups from this blog took 2 of the top 3 spots.
